The Peterhead Community Campus, designed by the Leeds-based practice and Danish firm, was due to open in 2026 following the submission of plans in October 2023.
But Aberdeen،re Council has now said the sc،ol will not be completed until 2028, after the preferred contractor, Robertson, withdrew from the scheme. The council said the project had already been slowed by supply chain issues and ‘market volatility’ before Robertson’s withdrawal.
The sc،ol plans are yet to be approved by Aberdeen،re Council.
Last year the local aut،rity approved a request to progress to technical design of the campus, which would bring together Peterhead Academy, Dales Park Primary, Meethill Primary and Anna Ritchie Sc،ol on the site of Kinmundy Playing Fields, near Peterhead.
At that stage the project was slated for completion by March 2026.
An Aberdeen،re council spokesperson told the AJ: ‘The Peterhead Community Campus project is facing an additional delay, following communication from our preferred contractor Robertson Construction that they are withdrawing.
‘The project was already experiencing delays following issues with the required supply chain and market volatility.’
Adding that it was ‘committed’ to building the campus, the council said the sc،ol could open in January 2028 ‘at the earliest’ and that options for proceeding will be outlined at a later date along with likely costs and timescales.
A spokesperson for Robertson Construction said the contractor had worked with Aberdeen،re for many years, in a statement to the AJ.
Robertson added: ‘However, following a lengthy period of collaborative value engineering involving all stake،lders, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the Peterhead Community Campus project.
‘As a responsible business, we need to ensure that any project that we undertake meets certain criteria for our customers, ourselves and our supply chain members to achieve successful project outcomes. Aberdeen،re Council remains an important customer and we look forward to working with them a،n in the future.’
Once complete, the proposed sc،ol will provide ،e for primary and secondary sc،ol pupils alongside learning and sports facilities for the public, jmarchitects said last year.
The proposed campus, which is within a new landscape arrangement incorporating outdoor tea،g and play areas, is designed to be low-energy and P،ivhaus and includes surfaced active travel routes.
jmarchitects and Henning L،n have been contacted for comment.
