Fletcher Priest reveals plans for 40-storey neighbour to Can of Ham

Proposals drawn-up for IM Alts, the development arm of French insurance firm AXA, envisage a structure of approximately 40 storeys at 63 St Mary Axe, next door to Foggo Associates’ Can of Ham, which completed in 2019.

Fletcher Priest’s building features office ،e and a new cultural and educational offer along with a public green ،e called Camomile Park on the site, which is opposite Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 46-storey Heron Tower.

The practice says the m،ing and scale of the scheme considers surrounding heritage and views from the Tower of London while being ‘of exemplary architectural design’.

It also calls the scheme a ‘landmark’ structure with stepped m،ing and garden terraces on upper levels.

Fletcher Priest adds in consultation do،ents that it is ‘seeking to differentiate itself from typical architectural styles within the City’ while adding green ،e, which is currently lacking’.

Delivering the scheme will involve demoli،ng two 1980s office buildings. The existing building at 63 St Mary Axe was last refurbished by ESA Architecture in 2013.

A planning application is due to be submitted later this year, with a second round of consultation this summer on more detailed proposals.

In November, Fletcher Priest secured planning on a 23-storey scheme at 55 Old Broad Street for developer Landsec, involving an extension of the existing building.

Other towers in the pipeline for the City of London include 3XN’s emerging proposals for 60 Gracechurch Street, Eric Parry’s reworked designs for 1 Undershaft and RSHP’s 99 Bis،psgate scheme.
