The Northampton project will be named The Diana Russell Building after former racing driver and local businesswoman Diana Russell, w، donated nearly £2.5 million to the project and was well known on the racing scene in the 1960s and 70s.
According to the design and access statement from 2019, the building was inspired by marquees and conceived as a ‘floating umbrella’ with a roof made from perforated white panels. ‘There are mainly happy ،ociations with marquees, events and situations that are rooted in real life but elevated,’ it reads.
‘We are proposing a two-storey building that looks like a single-storey building, which is surrounded by a beautiful garden, rooted in traditional English landscape technique this forms the backdrop to all the events, big and small, that happen at Maggie’s Northampton.’
Islington-based Stephen Marshall Architects is working with landscaper Arne Maynard on the project.
