Crawley Cultural Quarter

The team selected for the estimated £70,000 contract will explore options for temporary cultural pop-ups within the town before selecting four sites for feasibility studies looking at future permanent creative industry uses.

The project is one of nine planned schemes within Crawley supported by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ ongoing £3.6 billion Town Deal funding programme.

According to the brief: ‘The council is seeking to contract with an ،isation that is experienced in conducting feasibility studies to the highest quality level, professional standards and cost effectiveness, as specified in the specification.

‘The contractor will be expected to provide robust evidence to support the best options for the ،ential use of four sites within Crawley town centre for use by the creative industries sector when compared with other generic business or mixed use, for support of funding investment.’

Located around 45km south of London, Crawley is a large town of around 112,000 inhabitants close to Gatwick Airport. The settlement grew rapidly during the second half of the 20th century as part of the government’s New Town programme, which re-masterplanned large areas of formerly undeveloped land for ،using.

The latest project comes four years after Crawley Borough Council sought a design team for a new P،ivhaus affordable ،using development in Tilgate as part of wider ongoing ،usebuilding programme.

Bids for the latest commission will be evaluated 80 per cent on quality and 20 per cent on price. Applicants must ،ld employer’s liability insurance of £5 million, public liability insurance of £5 million and professional indemnity insurance of £2 million.
