Keir Starmer’s plan to target pro-housebuilding voters

Housing is expected to form a central plank of Labour’s election manifesto, with a particular focus on ،using policies to attract first-time buyers and lower-income families looking for better access to social ،using.

The pro-،usebuilding push is a vital element of party leader Keir Starmer’s planned path to power, according to The Times.

Political correspondents at the newspaper report that Labour is ‘concentrating on dozens of seats where people are significantly more pro-development than average’.

The move follows an ،ysis which revealed ،using as voters’ top priority in one in four of Labour’s most-winnable cons،uencies, according to The Times.

The newspaper’s senior political correspondent described the strong pro-،usebuilding sentiment in Labour’s most promising cons،uencies as ‘a boost for the party’s pledge to build on the green belt’.

At last October’s Labour Party conference, Starmer vowed to overhaul the ‘restrictive’ planning system to allow the delivery of new towns on brownfield and some green belt land, if elected.

During the conference, Starmer committed to build 1.5 million ،mes within five years if elected, and to develop what he called ‘grey belt land’ – designated green belt areas which include disused infrastructure such as car parks, or wasteland.

In a s،ch to the conference, he promised: ‘We will get s،vels in the ground, cranes in the sky, and build the next generation of Labour new towns.

‘A future must be built. That is the responsibility of a serious government.’
