Foster + Partners reveals designs for 62-storey Manhattan skyscraper

New York City mayor Eric Adams announced this week that plans had been submitted for the 350 Park Avenue scheme, which will deliver 170,000m2 (1.8 million sq ft) of commercial office ،e, a new public concourse and raise $35.8 million (£28.7 million) for the city’s East Midtown Public Realm Improvement Fund.

He told the Association for a Better New York that the development would help strengthen the city’s economic recovery, and ،st more than 6,000 jobs.

The tower will feature floor-to-ceiling gl،, landscaped terraces, and a stepped configuration to create ‘an iconic, distinctive skys،er’, a statement from the mayor’s office said.

The scheme will create a new public concourse on Park Avenue, occupying 1,160m2 of the project’s ground floor. This will feature green ،e, art displays and ،e for local businesses.

Clients Vor،o, Kenneth Griffin, and Rudin have secured Citadel and Citadel Securities as anc،r tenants, occupying at least 78,000m2 of the building. Griffin is founder and chief executive of Citadel.

Adams said: ‘Today, we are doubling down on our efforts to build a ‘New’ New York with a project that will help supercharge our economy and expand New York City’s iconic skyline.

‘Home to more than 6,000 jobs, this project will build on our continued efforts to energise Midtown Manhattan as the world’s most important business address and an economic engine for working-cl، New Yorkers.

‘New York City has come back stronger than ever thanks to our focus on protecting public safety, rebuilding our economy, and making our city more liveable.’

Vor،o and Rudin have proposed a tower on the site since 2019, in the wake of zoning changes that enabled more development in the area.

The project will see air rights bought from 19th-century landmarks St Patrick’s Cathedral and St Bart’s Church, raising $150 million (£120 million) for their upkeep.

It is expected to be subject to the city’s public review planning process early next year, with building completion set for 2032.

Foster + Partners has designed a series of skys،ers in Midtown Manhattan, including 50 Hudson Yards, 425 Park Avenue and the under-construction 270 Park Avenue, also known as the JP M، Chase Building.
