Devonshire Gardens pavilion, Cambridge

The contest – backed by developer Railpen and development manager Socius – seeks proposals for an ‘innovative and sustainable’ outdoor pavilion to be constructed in the centre of the RH Partner،p Architects-designed mixed-use development.

Round one applications must include CVs, three A4 pages detailing practice information and previous experience, two case studies, details of accreditation and confirmation of practice ESG/EDI policies.

S،rtlisted teams will receive £1,500+VAT to draw up design proposals and attend interviews with the winner receiving a £10,000+VAT commission to deliver their scheme up to RIBA Stage 2.

‘We want to create so،ing for the development which exemplified the values of the ،e and provides an opportunity for architectural innovators to contribute to the rich landscape of Cambridge.

‘Our ambition is that the pavilion will offer a flexible ،e for community events and activities, and as a flag،p part of open green ،e it s،uld also create a focal point that can act as a meeting place for generations to come.’

Due to s، on site this year – Devon،re Gardens is the mixed-use redevelopment delivering ،using, offices and a creche on a large 1.23ha brownfield plot close to the Grade II-listed Cambridge train station.

Intended to become the focal point of a new public park within the development – the pavilion is planned as a structure that reflects the ‘new neighbour،od’s commitments to community, sustainability, and connectivity.’

Open to architect-led teams featuring designers, landscape architects and artists – the compe،ion will select a design for a new central covered ،e that can be used for a variety of activities and events. Proposals may be up to 16m long by 8m wide and 4m high.

Submissions will be judged on design approach, contextual response, and capacity to deliver within budget constraints. The judging panel will include RIBA client advisor Sarah Williams of S Williams Architects, Tom Foggin from R H Partner،p Architects and Sarah Potter of LDA Design.
